John Carl Townsend

John C. Townsend, 89, of Beloit passed away at Community Care Center in Alliance surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Sebring, Ohio on November 20, 1930 to the late Oscar and Mary Fern (Greenawalt) Townsend. John was a graduate of Beloit High School and was a devoted worker throughout his life. He served in the United States Marines being a proud Marine Veteran. He devoted his life to helping his communities serving on the Beloit Ruritans, Smith Grange, George D Worth American Legion, Beloit Fire Department and countless other groups and organizations. John attended North Benton Presbyterian Church and retired from Ohio Department of Transportation.

John is survived by his daughters Tamara Louise Kocher and Vicki L. (Doug) Barclay; grandchildren RJ Kocher, Lyndi (Jonathan) Edwards, Rachael Louise (Tim) Basalla, Daniel R. Barclay and Rob Kocher; great grandchildren Donovan and Eleanore Louise Basalla, Braelynn, Lyla and Maddy Jo Edwards. Besides his parents John was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia Louise (Roth) Townsend and two brothers Clarence and Donald.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at North Benton Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Herb Goetz officiating. Friends and family will be received the hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Beloit, Ohio. Everyone in attendance is encouraged to adhere to the mandates set forth by following social distance and mask guidelines.
