Doris was a nurse's aide at the Salem Hospital who always enjoyed helping people. After the death of her daughter, Joy, she lost interest in the hospital and stayed home to take care of her sons. She became involved in Volunteering during those later years. Helping at the First Christian Church in Salem for many years. Also, she became a volunteer at United Local High School. There she did everything from Office work, hall monitor, Cafeteria, wherever she was needed. She even was the person that made the call to inform the parents that their children were not at school. Then her and ate husband Richard became a local icon in the United Athletic Booster Club. During those years she took care of the books, she worked in the food stand, she was secretary and did some many things to support the team and the school.

Doris was a Loving and caring person, a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was always laughing and smiling and everybody that knew her loved her. She also had the reputation of being very ornery. She lived in Ohio most of her life. When her age got the best of her, she moved to Kentucky to be closer to her son and loved the fact that there was very little snow there.
