Thomas Ellis, 87 was born on August 13, 1937, in Jackson, Michigan, and went to be with the Lord on July 8, 2025, in Salem, Ohio. He married his college sweetheart Janet (Brunk) Ellis on September 10, 1959 and together they dedicated their lives to God and serving others. He was a lifelong educator and respected leader in Christian Education. Thomas began his teaching career at the East Holmes Local School District and spent many years imparting knowledge and values to students. He later served as Academic Dean at God's Bible School and College, where he dedicated himself to training future teachers, culminating his career as a Professor at Allegheny Wesleyan College.
Thomas was a proud alumnus of the Salem Bible Institute, Malone University, and the University of Akron, earning a Graduate BRE, a Bachelor of Science, and a Master of Science, respectively. Throughout his life, he authored several books that documented his experiences and the stories of his students, which stand as a testament to his passion for education and his commitment to fostering growth in others.
An active member of the Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church, Thomas was deeply embedded in his community of faith and service. He found joy in gardening, camping, and planning canoe trips with his beloved family and friends; activities that created lasting memories and strengthened bonds.
Together Thomas and Janet raised three children: Jane M. (Terry) Livengood, Tommy (Frieda) Ellis, and Daniel (Becky) Ellis. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Abby (Benny) Ferraro, Emily (Jonny) Ratcliff, Zachary Livengood, Erica (JJ) Velastegui, Kendra (Jacob) Gyurica, John (Mallory) Ellis, Krista Ellis, Joey Ellis, Jenna (Nick) Lavy, and Jake Ellis, along with 27 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
