Shirley Mae Utley, 91, passed away in Westerville, Ohio on October 8, 2026. Born on June 12, 1935, in Alliance, Ohio the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Hendershot) Clegg. She lived a long life marked by devotion to her family and years of faithful work in her community. She returned to Ohio in 2018 after living many years in Florida.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Sebring McKinley High School. She went on to serve Sebring Local Schools as the Superintendent's Secretary for more than 25 years, a role through which she became a familiar and valued presence to many. Her long career reflected dedication, reliability, and a lasting commitment to the school district she served. Shirley was a long-time member of Pine Lake Christian Church in Sebring and most recently Sunbury Christian Church in Sunbury, Ohio. She loved to travel, completing jigsaw puzzles, and later in life enjoyed being in activities at her local senior center. She especially enjoyed attending the sporting events of her great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children; Debra (Tom) Wilson, Joel (Lori) Miller, Renee Milliken, her stepchildren, Mary Kay (Todd) Brune, David (Pam) Utley, Gary (Debbie) Utley, Karen (Mark) Babik and daughter in law Denise Utley. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband James Miller, her second husband Gerald Utley, stepson Tom Utley, and her brother Walter Clegg.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Sebring Chapel, 126 W Vermont Ave, Sebring, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Bratten officiating. Burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Sebring. The family would like to say a special thank you to the nursing staff at Westerville Senior Living and the staff of Capital City Hospice.
