On June 18, 2026, Shirley Faye Richardson Dye, age 78, went home to be with the Lord in Salem, Ohio. She was born on July 19, 1947, at the Pope Hospital in Richmond, Kentucky to Rev. Wallace and Bonnie King Richardson.
Shirley lived most of her younger years in Madison County. In 1965, she graduated from Garrard County High School and from God's Bible School and College in 1972. Shirley loved secretarial work and enjoyed meeting people in her various jobs, especially at Proctor & Gamble and the Bible colleges where she served.
On April 17, 1999, Shirley married Rev. John L. Dye, Sr. and they enjoyed pastoring church in West Virginia and Ohio, entertaining guests in their parsonage and traveling. Their trip to Israel was one of the highlights of their travels. They enjoyed many years together until his death on April 26, 2023.
Shirley faithfully served the Lord for over 50 years. Throughout these years, she enjoyed playing the piano and organ, singing special songs, teaching pre-teen Sunday school classes, heading VBS programs and participating in Bible studies. She was a member of the Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church in Salem, Ohio at the time of her death.
In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Joyce Smith, her brother-in-law: Mitchell Smith and her niece, Rhonda Michelle Roark.
Survivors include her sister: Deborah (& Steve) Scrivner, two brothers: Larry Richardson and J. D. Richardson all of Richmond, many nieces and nephews whom she adored, three step-children: Cindy (& Denny) Haight, Karen (& Rev. Robert) Blankenship and John L. Dye, Jr., seven step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, several cousins and a host of friends.
A time of vistation will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church in Salem, Ohio. A Service will be held at 8:00 PM with Pastor Stanley Grabill officiating. A second funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home in Richmond, KY.
A time of visitation will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eric Richardson, Adam Richardson, Andrew Richardson, Jay Jackson, Johnny Eldridge, Sean Morgan and Jesse Landrum.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Tipton, David Tipton, Donald King, Robbie King, Jesse King, Bobby Gilliam and Leland Scarborough. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, Salem Chapel, (330) 337-6363, www.BrownFHonline.com.
