Ronald William Shasteen

Apr 11, 1962 — Oct 3, 2026

Ronald W. Shasteen, 64, of Salem, OH, was killed in a motorcycle accident on October 3, 2026.

Ron was born on April 11, 1962, in Salem, OH to Robert Shasteen and Donna Morocco. Growing up in Salem, Ron spent time with his father in the garage, repairing and painting cars and becoming a proficient mechanic. He graduated from Salem High School and spent most of his career working for ABF Freight.

Ron's true love and passion in life was riding, building, and repairing his motorcycles. He began his motorcycle riding at age six on a minibike and graduated to a 1977 Harley Sportster at the age of 16. Ron rode to Sturgis over a dozen times throughout his life, with his first trip in 1983. An avid motorcyclist and long-distance rider, Ron rode hundreds of thousands of miles across the country, completing multiple Iron Butt Association (#33296) challenges with ease. He was a proud participant of the Hoka Hey Challenge in 2026 (#1074) and enjoyed long distance riding for various charities. Ron was a lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG), having owned dozens of custom bikes over the years.

Ron was also a life member of the Salem Italian American Club where he enjoyed playing pool and bocce and serving as the Sergeant at Arms. When he wasn't riding his bike, Ron enjoyed spending time with his beloved pups, Kasper and Mia, getting tattooed, collecting coins, pens, stickers, and lime green items, and spending time in his garage playing darts. He was artistic and creative, and starred in the film Following Oaks (2015).

Ron leaves behind his daughter Hayley (Shasteen) Lalchand, son-in-law Ryan Lalchand, stepson Lakota Himes, and former wife Deb Kunkle.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Ron's honor to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (https://msf-usa.org/) or to the Salem Italian American Educational Fund (330- 332-5919).

Please always remember to look out for motorcycles while you are driving. Looking twice can save a life.

A private celebration of life will be held for family and friends. A bike run will be held in his honor in the future. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, Salem Chapel, (330) 337-6363, www.BrownFHonline.com.
