Robert Herold

September 30, 1930 — September 14, 2025

Robert L. Herold went home to be with the heavenly angels on September 14, 2025 at the age of 94. He had been a resident of Auburn Assisted Living in Damascus for the past 8 months. Robert was born on September 30, 1930 to James V. and Emma V. Herold. He graduated from Beloit High School in 1948. His parents were good disciplinarians in teaching him the value of a good work ethic.

Robert loved to go square dancing on weekends where he met his future bride, Irene F. Dickey. They were married on February 4, 1951 in East Rochester, Ohio by the Rev. Baldwin. Robert served in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He also worked at the Purity Dairy during high school, before and after his service in Korea. He would also spend time during his adolescent years helping his grandparents on the farm at Westville. This experience influenced his desire to be a lifelong farmer.

Robert and Irene moved onto their Knox School Road farm after he returned from the service. Together with love, determination and grit they established a dairy farming operation and brought three farm girls into their family.

Robert is survived by daughters: Deborah Schulte of Smithville and Diane (Allen) Hartschuh of Bloomville. A sister-in-law Esther Barker of Texas and a brother-in-law Dwight Dickey of Florida also survive plus nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; daughter Sharon (Anthony) Ginnetti, son-in-law Ronald Schulte; sister, Rosalene Trimmer; and sister-in-law Lucille Clark.

Robert was a member of the Tri County Milk Producers Association, Mile Branch Grange, Bethel United Church of Christ and the Columbiana County Farm Bureau. He also served on the Columbiana County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors for several years. He received the Goodyear Soil Conservation Award in 1970 for the Columbiana Soil Conservation District. Memorials in Robert's memory can be made to: Auburn Assisted Living, 451 Valley Road, Salem, OH 44460 or the Coulumbiana County Fair, PO Box 356, Lisbon, OH 44432.
