Ramona L. Greenawalt, a former member of the Sebring community and a devoted matriarch, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, in Strongsville, Ohio at Generations Senior Living where she resided the last 11 years. Born on September 20, 1928, in Sebring, Ohio, Ramona's life was marked by deep faith, unwavering dedication to her family, and active service within her community.
A lifelong resident of the area, Ramona enriched the lives of those around her through her many contributions, especially within her cherished Sebring United Methodist Church. Her proudest accomplishment was her lifetime membership in the church, where she shared her gift of song as a member of the choir for over five decades. Her voice and spirit brought joy to countless worshipers and served as a testament to her steadfast devotion. Additionally, Ramona demonstrated remarkable leadership as past president of the North Georgetown American Legion Auxiliary and was an esteemed former member of the Homeworth Eastern Star, reflecting her commitment to civic engagement and fellowship.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Carl Mahoney) Berens of Middleburg Heights, Ohio, and her son, Thomas H. (Jean) Greenawalt of Palm Harbor, Florida. Ramona cherished her role as grandmother to three-Richard (Sheila) Steel, Jennifer Jacobs, and Jen Rotsinger-and took great pride in her six great-grandchildren: Erika Losse, Brandon Losse, Brooke Jacobs, Luke Jacobs, Alexa Steel, and Logan Steel, who carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
Ramona was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James H. Greenawalt, who passed away on August 23, 2014. She also mourned the loss of her parents, John W. and Lydia (Daryman) Stephenson, along with her two sisters, Frances Stryffeler and Marjorie Allcorn.
Family, friends, and all who knew Ramona will gather to honor her memory and celebrate her life at the Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home, located at 126 W Vermont Ave, Sebring, Ohio 44672. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Fred Higgins officiating. The burial will take place immediately after at Highland Memorial Park, 12th Street, Beloit, Ohio.
