Margel D. Chapman

Margel D. Chapman, passed away on September 11, 2026, in Canton, Ohio. She was born on March 12, 1935, in Leon, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Herman and Macel Gandee.

Margel will be remembered as a hardworking woman who devoted herself to both her family and her work. She worked in housekeeping at Copeland Oaks and also at Thorn's Deli in Alliance. In her faith life, she attended Mount Olive Evangelical Church in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. She especially loved spending time with her family, and she enjoyed the outdoors. She could often be found outside, working on various projects, doing the kinds of everyday tasks that reflected her energy and care.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Chapman; her parents, Herman and Macel Gandee; her brothers, Darrell Gandee, Glen Gandee, and Gary Gandee; her sister, Janet Jodon; her brothers-in-law, Henry Rollins and George Jodon; and her sister-in-law, Pat Gandee.

Margel is survived by her children, Denise (Pastor Lee) Maley, Bonnie (Philip) Saunders, and Joe (Rhea) Chapman. She also leaves behind a beloved group of grandchildren: Laura (Kevin Wingrove) Scripp, Robin (Mark) Snyder, Kelly (Bret) Sanor, Stacy (Mike) Wyatt, Jonathan Saunders, Alex (Jesse) Chapman-Secrest, Steven Finnegin, Scott Finnegin Jr.  14 great grandchildren with one on way and 5 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by, her sisters, Edna Rollins and Betty Miller, and by her sisters-in-law, Nora Gandee, Lina Gandee, Pearl Weigand, Inez Melton, Beatrice Whittymore and her close friend Louise Gary.

A funeral service will be held on September 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Sebring Chapel, 126 W Vermont Ave, Sebring, Ohio 44672. A graveside service will follow at Highland Memorial Park, 12th Street, Beloit, Ohio 44609. A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as well as the hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home on Thursday.
