Katharina Schneider, 96, of Salem, Ohio passed away peacefully on June 30, 2018 at the home of Kate and Greg Oesch. Katharina was born November 25, 1921 in Durrbach, Transylvania, Romania the daughter of the late Johann and Katharina (Weber ) Kaspar. Katharina and her husband George came to the United States in May of 1956. Being an avid sewer and knitter Kathe always had a needle or hook in her hands. She made countless afghans and blankets with many being given to the newborn children at her church. In the last 9 years she knitted over 700 sweaters and donated them to the World Vision program Knit for Children. Katharina was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran church of Salem, a 50 plus member of the Salem Saxon Club and a member of the Alliance of Transylvania Saxons.
Katharina married George Schneider on December 20, 1947, George proceeded her in death in January 2003. Her parents and two brothers, Johann Kaspar and David Weber also proceeded her in death. Katharina will be dearly missed by Kate and Greg Oesch and their families. She was “adopted” into their lives over 40 years ago and was fondly called “neighbor” by their children and their friends.
As per her wishes there will be a private memorial service at Hope Cemetery in Salem, Ohio with Joanne Dota officiating.
