Judith Ruth Burd, of Sebring and formerly Berlin Center, passed away on April 17, 2026, in Canton, Ohio. Born on May 14, 1943, in Friendsville, Maryland, the daughter of the late Huston H. and Opal V. Friend. Judith led a life marked by commitment, compassion, and an enduring devotion to her family.
Throughout her career, Judy was known for her reliability and kindness, providing safe and caring transportation to countless students in the Western Reserve School District for over 20 years. Her service as a bus driver was more than a job; she touched many lives with patience and warmth. Judy's passions extended beyond her professional life. She enjoyed traveling to Florida, finding joy in gardening, walking, and cooking. However, above all, the most important aspect of her life was her family, who were the center of her world and the source of her greatest pride and happiness.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Samuel William Vance Burd, to whom she was married on September 26, 1959. Together, they built a family. Judith was also the cherished mother of Warren L. (Susie) Burd, Bradley S. (Lynn McGahann) Burd, and Scott W. (Tracy) Burd. Her legacy continues in her beloved grandchildren: Ryan (Kaylin) Burd, Aaron (Abby) Burd, Brandon Burd, Jordan Burd, Brenen (Shaughana) Burd, Blakelyn (Aaron) Light, and Caden (Dana) Aquino. Judy was also a proud great-grandmother to Sloane Burd, Audrey Burd, Gracie Conde, Zoe Metzgar, Sadie Burd, Brooks Light, Baylor Light, and Myles Aquino. Judith was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings, including her infant sister Lucille, Huston Jr., Wade, Jim, and Joann.
