Irene Halverstadt, 83, of Salem passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Salem, Ohio on October 31, 1938 the daughter of the late L. Everett and Hazel (Kennedy) Hall. Irene was a 1956 graduate of Salem High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kent State University. She worked as a teacher for children with learning disabilities until she received her Master's Degree in Social Work from Youngstown State University. She worked as a Social Worker for Mahoning County retiring from Woodside Hospital after more than 20 years of service. Irene was a member of Salem First United Methodist Church and was involved in many activities. In her free time she was an avid supporter of helping those in need especially those with mental health issues. She was a member of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) serving as a class leader for "Families in touch" and was also selected as a county representative to the NAMI Annual Convention. Irene was also a proud supporter of PBS Western Reserve and Planned Parenthood.
Survivors include her children;Marsha (Timothy) Berger,David Halverstadt,Charles (Lynne) Halverstadt and Cheryl (Brad) Dailey, twelve grandchildren; Jadey (PJ) Gilmore, Janna Berger, Tyler Berger, Jeremy (Denise) Halverstadt, Daniel (Megan) Halverstadt, Sarah (Larry) Rust, Zach (Margaret) Halverstadt, Bradley (Jamie) Dailey, Robert (Emily Peters) Dailey, Briana (Shawn Stephens) Dailey, Krissy (Ron Cappitte) Sipus, Dave (Jenna) Sipus, 22 great grandchildren; Everett Gilmore, Abram Gilmore, Xavier Halvestadt, Madelyn Halverstadt, Elliot Stewart, Connor Halverstadt, Maisie Halverstadt, Claire Rust, Alexis Rust, Eliana Rust, Lara Rust, Zach Halverstadt Jr., Ezekiel Halverstadt, Elijah Halverstadt, Jayvon Sipus, Allissa Sipus, Isaac Sipus, Dave Sipus, Gavin Sipus, Bradley James (Madelyn) Dailey, Filson Dailey, Zella Dailey, a Great Great Grandchild Elizabeth Dailey and one on the way. She is also survivied by two siblings Lawrence (Fran) Hall and Carol (William) Cox. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by an infant son Paul Everett Halverstadt, her former husband Roderick Halverstadt and three siblings Walter Hall, Eileen Kerestes and Robert Hall.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home in Salem with Pastor Byron Bufkin officiating. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday two hours prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at Hope Cemetery in Salem.
