Herman J. Schmid, 92, of Sebring passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Herman was born on March 13, 1929 in Sebring, Ohio to the late John and Minnie F. (Blasiman) Schmid. He attended Sebring McKinley High School, and joined the US Army in 1952 serving as a Sergeant in the Korean War. Herman then retired from the United States Department of Agriculture as a Milk Tester in 1992. He was a lifelong member of First Immanuel United Church of Christ in Alliance, a member of the George D. Worth American Legion Post #574, and United Commercial Travelers, Salem #590. He enjoyed traveling after retirement with his wife especially to Sugar Creek. Herman liked to watch the Cleveland Indians and cheer on the Buckeyes; however most important to him was spending time with his family.
Herman is survived by his daughter Amy Steele of Sebring and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded by his wife of 65 years Evelyn Mae (Krahling) whom he married on April 29, 1950 and passed on May 9, 2015, his brother Edwin Schmid and son in law Kenneth Steele. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Sebring Fire Department and Aultman/Alliance Hospice for all there attention and care over his lengthy illness.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Neal Mann officiating. Friends and family will be received the hour prior to the service from 12:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Beloit, Ohio with military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
