Harriett E. Fahnert, a dedicated educator and vibrant community member, passed away on July 4, 2025, at the age of 96, in Sebring, Ohio. Born on June 3, 1929, Harriett's life was marked by her profound commitment to teaching and nurturing the minds of children.
Harriett graduated from Monmouth College in Illinois with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Shortly after completing her education, she embarked on a remarkable teaching career that led her to several locations around the world. She had the privilege of instructing school-age American children at United States Air Force bases in Japan, Norway, and England, as well as in Colorado Springs. Her journey continued as she taught in Canonsburg Local Schools in PA, then she worked for 40 years in the Alliance City School District, proudly dedicating her skills to second graders at Morgan, South Lincoln, and North Lincoln Elementary Schools. Harriett's impact on countless young lives was profound, and her legacy of education will be cherished by many.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Harriett was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alliance, where she engaged with her community and cultivated lasting friendships. An enthusiast of travel, skiing, and swimming, she embraced life to the fullest. Harriett also enjoyed gardening and shared her passion for learning as a tutor at the University of Mt. Union Nature Center. Her creativity extended into the arts as she served as Prop Manager for the Carnation City Players, participating alongside her late husband Curt.
Harriett is survived by her two sons, Joel (Melissa) Fahnert and Chris (Cheryl) Fahnert, and her brother, Robert McCullough. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curtis Fahnert, who passed away on July 3, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Samuel G. and Esther (Adams) McCullough, and her sister, Nancy Tiger.
