George E. Sheen, age 93, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021. He was born and raised in Greenford, Ohio. After serving in US Army combat during the Korean War, he returned to Alliance and worked in manufacturing. He retired from B and W Research Center as a master welder and foreman of the fabrication shop. George was actively involved in the community. He was a Cubmaster and Scout Leader for Boy Scouts of America, going on to serve as a District Commissioner, Council Trainer, and Camp instructor. He spent many hours at Camp McKinley in Lisbon, Ohio, and Seven Ranges Scout Reservation in Hanoverton, Ohio, building and maintaining camp equipment. George was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for Outstanding Service. George was also very active in the Knox Ruritan Service Club, working with construction and maintenance of the Knox Township ball field, participating in multiple service projects, and running pedal tractor pulls and dunk tank activities. George got to know many of the Knox Township community through his work at the polls with the Columbiana County Board of Elections. He was always ready for a good conversation. George married his one true sweetheart, Joan C. (Marchinke) Sheen in September, 1950. She preceded him in death in 2016, after 66 years of marriage. He is survived by two of his 11 siblings, Hazel Nichols and Charles Sheen, and his children, Martha (David) Daniels, Raymond (Holly) Sheen, Kenneth (Michelle) Sheen, and Norman (Debbie) Sheen, twelve grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The staff of Stone Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care are much appreciated for their care in his final months. Visitation will be Friday. August 20, 2021 at Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Home in Sebring, Ohio, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 21, at 10 am at First Baptist Church of Alliance with an hour of visitation prior to the service from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knox Ruritan Service Club, PO Box 114, Homeworth, Ohio 44634 or the First Baptist Church of Alliance Memorial Fund, 1659 State St., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
