Betty Jewel Burr, 83, of Sebring passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. She was born in Hull, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Elmer and Nellie (Booth) Zirkle. Betty was primarily a homemaker, who loved cooking and baking for people, but foremost she enjoyed being a wife and mother, not only taking care of her husband and children, but also her Pomeranians, whom she adored as she had a tender heart for animals of all kinds. Betty worked outside of the home for a few years at Crandall Medical Center, enjoying her time there but deciding she was ultimately more content taking care of home. Bettys true passion was country music, from her beloved favorites, Hank Williams, Dolly, Connie Smith, Loretta, and so on to all of the entertainers of the day and never missed a chance to get to see them and meet them whenever she could. However, she did not only enjoy listening and being a fan, she also loved to sing and write her own songs, and at one time in her younger days could be found performing on the radio, sharing billing with Hylo Brown and the Timberliners, singing at churches, on the Wheeling West Virginia Jamboree, and in other venues. Anyone who knew her knew she loved any reason to sing and would often break out into song to the delight of friends and those around her! Betty had a strong faith and love for the Lord, and many of the songs she would write or sing reflected that love and devotion.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years Russell Burr, their daughter Tammie(Tim) Mattis of Findlay. She is also survived by two grandchildren; Kristi(Drew) Ohler, Elijah Mattis, two brothers; Scott Zirkle and Ted Zirkle, two sisters; Katherine Murphy and Mabel Campbell. Aside from her parents she was also preceded in death by her son Patrick H. Burr on Oct. 3, 1993 and her brothers Aubrey and Don.
