With deep sorrow and respect, we announce the passing of Bertha Runyon, who passed away on July 31, 2025, at the age of 96 in her beloved hometown of Sebring, Ohio. Born on January 1, 1929, the daughter of Homer and Ruth (Christy) Miller. Berti's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, dedication, and a profound commitment to her family and community.
Berti was not only a devoted homemaker but also the proud mother of nine children. She embraced the joys and challenges of motherhood with grace and unparalleled passion. For a brief period, she ventured into the world of real estate, showcasing her versatility and determination. Additionally, Berti worked as a cashier at IGA, where her warm demeanor and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on those she encountered.
A proud graduate of Sebring McKinley High School in 1946, where she earned the honor of salutatorian, Berti was committed to education and lifelong learning. On December 7, 1946, she married her beloved husband, Harry Runyon, forging a partnership based on love and shared dreams until his passing on July 7, 1994.
Berti's hobbies reflected her nurturing spirit; she had a profound love for gardening and was known for her ability to grow a variety of flowers, bringing beauty into her life and the lives of those around her. Her greatest passion, however, was her family. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, creating a legacy of love and strength.
Berti is survived by her children: Harry Runyon Jr, Margaret (Kendall) Hively, Susan Risbeck Sanor, Rosemary Felgar, Joseph (Cathy) Runyon, Lorraine (Harry) Snyder, and Martin (Sheri) Runyon. She leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her spirit and love forward.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Runyon, children Dana Runyon and Patrick Runyon, as well as her siblings Betty, Pauline, and Richard. Berti's loyal companion, a beloved dog named Bridgett.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Brown Funeral Home, Sebring Chapel, located at 126 W Vermont Ave, Sebring, OH, on August 5, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Bratten officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alliance. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, Sebring, 330-938-2526.
