Evelyn 'Evie' Steer, 86, passed away Saturday morning, July 15, 2023 at Auburn Skilled Nursing in Damascus. Evie is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Gerald 'Jerry' Steer. She was born on December 9, 1936 in Mount Pleasant, Ohio, a daughter of the late Myron and Esther (Grafton) Goff.
Evie held many jobs over the years and was an experienced bookkeeper who considered herself to be a self-taught person who loved numbers. She retired as executive secretary from Mustang Products in Damascus in 1995. She was a faithful member of Damascus Friends Church where she sang in the choir, directed the children's choir for many years, and was a beloved Sunday School teacher. Evie was likely best known as being the first face people would see on Sunday morning as she cheerfully welcomed all who entered the church for worship. She was passionate about her love for Jesus and shared that love with everyone she met, most especially with her children and grandchildren. She was a doting mother and grandmother and cherished every moment she spent with family.
In addition to her husband, Jerry, she is survived by sons Steven (Sheila) Steer of Ashland, MA, Gary (Jeannette) Steer of Melbourne Beach, FL, and Bob (Mindy) Steer of Damascus; grandchildren Laura (Matthew) Rees, Stacey (Nate) Ashton, Anissa (Andrew) Alessandro, Marcus Steer and Joshua, Abby, and Matthew Steer; and 6 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 19, 2023 at 12 pm (noon) at Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home in Sebring. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 10 am to 12 pm. Burial will take place at Damascus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Evie's honor to the Alzheimer's Association or Ohio Living Hospice. The family would also like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Auburn Skilled Nursing for their loving care through the many years.
