January 16, 1931 ~ April 24, 2015 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Evelyn (Stewart) Babb, 84 of Salem passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Salem Regional Medical Center. She was born January 16, 1931 in Gavers, Ohio the daughter of the late Homer A. and Vivian M. (Rice) Stewart. Evelyn was a 1949 graduate of Wellsville High School; she served in the Banking industry for 28 years retiring in April of 1996 lastly at Key Bank in Damascus, Ohio; she belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Salem since 1953, the UMW Bertie Hanson Circle. She was a life member of Salem Elk’s Auxiliary #305 where she was the first woman officer as Tyler, a past President of the YWCA and was honored by them receiving the Outstanding Volunteer of Achievement Award in 2000. She was also honored as Woman of the Year in 2003 for her dedicated service to Church Women United. She was a former member of the FPO Eagles in Salem, a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #892 of Salem, a member of the Salem Quaker Red Hat Society, the Salem Senior Citizens, former president of Canfield AARP #3104 and a member of the Wellsville Alumni Committee in Wellsville. Many people will also remember her for her Nut Kolachi, her Marvelous Methodist Meatloaf and being LeBron James’ number 1 fan.

Evelyn is survived by her son Randy (Debbie) Babb of Columbus, granddaughter Devon (Adam) Strahm of New Albany, OH a grandson Marcus J. Babb of Napa, CA, #2 son Douglas (Melissa) Knickerbocker of Salem. She is also survived by a sister Thelma (Gerald) Penny- Scott of FL, two brothers Merle (Nancy) Stewart of East Palestine, OH and James L. Stewart of Calcutta, OH, forty nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded by her husband Daniel Babb whom she married on December 22, 1950 and died on July 31, 2011, three sisters Shirley Knickerbocker, Alice Danser, Dorothy Kireta-Painter and two brothers Ray and Glenn Stewart.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Salem First United Methodist Church at 12PM with Pastor P. Douglas George officiating, friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:30Am till the time of the service. Burial will take place in Washingtonville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Salem Elks Lodge #305, 824 East State Street Salem, OH 44460 or the UMW-Bertie Hanson Circle care of the First United Methodist Church of Salem 244 South Broadway Ave. Salem, OH 44460.
